چکیده
Cemented carbides are used in the cutting tools industry thanks to their exceptional mechanical properties. Manufactured by powder metallurgy route, they made of a hard WC phase with ductile metallic binder, most commonly Co. Due lower availability Co and its classification as carcenogenic material REACH European Regulation, new binders have be considered: Fe Ni investigated this work. Because is common binder metal for decades, there still lack knowledge regarding specific effect alternative on shrinkage microstructure evolution cemented carbides. The purpose work understand nature specifically, comparing classic pure including influence carbon content. Shrinkage behaviour WC-M alloys (M = Co, Ni, Fe) studied from dilatometry experiments well qualitative quantitative microstructural characterisations. Solid state sintering delayed higher temperature WC-Fe comparison WC-Co WC-Ni alloys. Densification mechanisms discussed relation results, analyses, DFT calculations theoretical kinetic model literature.

The Effect of sintering temperature on microstructure and hardness of milled WC- 20 wt.% equiatomic (Fe,Co) cemented carbides
In this study, WC–20 wt.% equiatomic (Fe,Co) powder mixture was milled in a planetary ball mill. The effects of different milling time (15 min, 5h, 10h, and 25 h) and sintering temperatures on the microstructure and mechanical properties of this equi-Fe substituted cermet were investigated. The structural evolution and the crystallite size changes of the powders during milling were monitored by...
متن کاملEffect of SiC nanoparticles addition on mechanical properties and wear resistance of cemented carbides fabricated by spark plasma sintering
WC-10Co cemented carbides containing 1 to 4 wt% SiC nanoparticles were prepared by spark plasma sintering. The effects of SiC content on microstructure, mechanical properties and wear resistance of the sintered materials were studied. Microstructural studies showed that SiC addition resulted in WC grain coarsening. In addition, the hardness decreased with increasing SiC content. However, the fr...

After WW2, a huge market opened in the growing economies and cemented carbides contributed as tool materials and construction parts to their industrial development. Today, cemented carbides are the workhorses in all areas of the manufacturing industries: no factory without cemented carbide tools; no production of glass bottles, aluminium cans or plastic tubes which has not benefited from these ...

The cracking and delamination of TiN-coated hardmetals (WC-Co cemented carbides) when subjected to Brale indentation were studied. Experimental variables were substrate microstructure related to low (6%wt. Co) and medium (13%wt. Co) binder content, and surface finishes associated with grinding and polishing stages before film deposition. Brale indentation tests were conducted on both coated and...
